Summer Activities
In Newsletter #39 we mentioned some general suggestions for
summer study such as:
* Get a head start on next year's studies by doing one subject
this summer.
* Shore up weak areas with a little extra practice.
* Explore new or favorite interests or add an elective.
* Go on lots of field trips.
* Read together and add an enriching, related study.
* Incorporate these daily learning habits:
Bible Reading and Memory
Basic Math Facts
Vocabulary, Spelling, and Writing
Globe, Map, and Time-Line Study
Reading Aloud Together
In this issue we present an assortment of ideas that we have
gathered from back issues of The Teaching Home. You can use
these ideas or modify them to fit your family.
Study the Stars.
"The heavens declare the glory of God" (Psalm 19:1).
Summer nights outside are ideal for this pursuit.
* Study the stars with just your eyes and a $10 star finder which
you can get in a bookstore. The star finder will tell you what
stars are visible from your latitude for each month and show you
which stars can been seen on any date at any hour.

* Lie out in your back yard or on a hill on your sleeping bags
while gazing at the stars.
* Chart the moon's full cycle on a calendar for one month.
* Use binoculars and graduate to a telescope when you understand
the basics.
* Visit a planetarium, use software, or watch a video.

Sunnyside Up: Outdated Geography
When she was almost 11, my daughter Autumn listened intently
to a family reading session that dealt briefly with the end
times. Afterwards I attempted to answer some of her questions.
When I mentioned that there would be a new heaven and a new
earth, she became concerned.
"You mean," she asked, " I'm going to have to learn world
geography all over again?"

God Loves You.
Because we were separated from God by sin, Jesus Christ died
in our place, then rose to life again. If we trust Jesus Christ
as our Savior and Lord, He will give us eternal life.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that
not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of
works, that no one should boast" (Ephesians 2:8, 9).
