Upcoming Elections: November 7
This important election will decide the control of
congress and other
vital issues in many states. It is essential
for Christians to take
this opportunity to influence our culture in the
following ways.
1. Register To Vote
Make sure that all members of your family age 18 and
above are
registered to vote at your current address and urge
the members of your
church to do so also.
Find your state's deadline for
voter
registration.
Register
to vote.
2. Absentee Ballot
If you will not be able to make it to the polls on
November 7, request
an absentee ballot from your
secretary
of state.
3. Pray
See
daily
prayer requests from the Center for
Reclaiming America for Christ's National Prayer Force.
4. Be Informed
Voter
guides are now available for 17 states, and more
will be added before the election.
5. Encourage Your Pastor To Be Involved
The Alliance Defense Fund and the Family
Research Council
sent thousands of letters to churches, spelling out
what's
legal for congregations to do during an election
season.
According to the letter, "Plainly stated, there is
nothing in federal
tax law to prevent a pastor from directly telling
the congregation to
support legislation that the church believes to be
beneficial to the
community. On the other hand, IRS regulations do
prohibit tax-exempt
organizations, including churches, from endorsing
candidates.
However, churches remain free to educate their
congregations through
distributing voter guides, registering voters, or
hosting candidate forums."
Read this
letter,
and then print it and give it to your pastor.
6. Vote!

Prepare for Halloween Outreach
Tract Evangelism is an effective way to spread the
Good News of God's
love and offer of salvation to all.
The Halloween season has become the busiest time of
the year for the
American Tract
Society. ATS distributed over 3.9
million tracts in 2005
and will distribute over 4 million in 2006.
(Annually ATS, founded in
1825, distributes close to 30 million gospel tracts
worldwide in over 91
languages.)
New Tracts for Halloween
ATS is offering a
new
tract for Halloween. The
glow-in-the-dark tract for children is offered with
the suggestion that
believers give these bright items out on what ATS
calls "the darkest
holiday of the year."

October Is Clergy Appreciation Month
Clergy Appreciation Month is a reminder to thank
your pastor and his
family for the work, sacrificial dedication, and
blessings they provide your family.
"Respect those who work hard among you, who are over
you in the Lord and
who admonish you." 1 Thessalonians 5:12
Although you can do this often throughout the year,
this can be a special occasion for your entire
church to do it together.
For your family, this can be as simple as a card,
gift, meal, or other
method of showing your appreciation.
Home-school families, who often observe different
standards and
practices within the church, should be especially
careful to let their
minister know of their support and gratefulness.
See
suggestions
for celebrating Clergy Appreciation
Month.

White Ribbon Against Pornography Week
October 29 through November 5
The White Ribbon Against Pornography is intended to
educate the public about the extent of the
pornography problem and about what can legally be
done to fight back against the flood tide of
obscenity.
See a
detailed
list of activities an individual or
group can do during WRAP Week and during the year
(select WRAP Campaign on the
menu in the upper right-hand corner of the page).
Order and
wear a white ribbon lapel pin or place
a white ribbon magnet on your car.
If your state does not have a state law that
prohibits obscenity, Morality in Medias legal
department can help
draft a new or amended state obscenity law or, if
the Sate Supreme Court has invalidated the law, an
amendment to a state constitution. Keep in mind
that the Federal Obscenity Laws apply in each
state! (See notes on AK, HI, ME, MT, NM, OR,
SD, VT, and WV.)
Ask city, county, and state legislators to curb
sexually oriented businesses.
Make complaints to businesses that distribute or
advertise pornography.
Write letters to the editor.
Find
more
information and resources including model
letters, sample sermons, the porn problem and
solutions, help for porn victims, addicts, and parents.
"Everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has
already committed adultery with her in his heart."
Matthew 5:28
